This is a very old recipe and one of my favorites. Erin used to make this at Christmas (she was quite good at it) then we would dip 3/4 of each cookie in chocolate. I got this recipe from the Bevalaquas who we met in Boston when Dan was in school. They ended up moving into our ward in AZ without knowing we were there...kinda cool.
2 c. flour
1 stick butter (melted)
3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
3 tsp. anise, vanilla, almond, or orange extract
2 eggs
Mix all of the above together (dough will be sticky)
Divide into three loaves and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. They will be light brown when done.
Wait until they are slightly cooled off, then cut each loaf at n ngle. There should be 8 cookies from each loaf.
If you want them crispy, bake a little longer after cutting. (I always turn them on their side and bake about 20 minutes longer)
