Toll House Cookies

2 l/4 cups flour
1 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Salt
1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 eggs
12-oz. Package (2 cups) chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (opt.)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large mixer bowl, beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8-11 minutes until edges are golden brown. Makes 5 dozen 2-1/4 inch cookies.
