Spiced Ginger Cookies

3 ½ cups flour
2 tsp. Baking soda
2 tsp. Ground cinnamon
1 tsp. Ground ginger
½ tsp. Ground nutmeg
¼ tsp. Salt
1/8 tsp. Ground cloves
1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 Tbls. molasses
1 ½ tsp. Finely shredded orange peel
3 Tbls. orange juice or water

In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, the baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, salt and cloves. Set the dry ingredients aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, brown sugar and egg. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Add molasses, orange peel and orange juice or water. Beat until combined. Beat in as much of the flour mixture as you can with the electric mixer. Stir in any of the remaining flour mixture with a wooden spoon.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. (I use a scooper). Place the balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Cool the cookies on a cookie sheet for 1 minute. Transfer the cookies to wire rack and let cool completely. To decorate, drizzle with Orange Icing
Orange Icing:
3 cups powdered sugar
3 Tbls. orange juice
1 tsp. Vanilla
Combine the sugar with the orange juice and vanilla and mix till smooth. Add more orange juice if needed to make a drizzley consistency.
