This is the one grandma always made when we were kids
1 ½ cups boiling water
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs
1 ½ cups flour
1 tsp. Cinnamon
½ tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Baking soda
raisins (totally optional – yuck)
Boil water then stir in the oatmeal and raisens; let stand while making the rest. Cream the butter, sugars and eggs. Sift the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and then mix into the wet ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees in a greased 9x13-inch pan.
Frosting:
½ cup butter
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup milk
1 cup coconut
1 tsp. Vanilla
nuts
In a saucepan cook butter, sugar and milk for 10 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and cook a few minutes more and spread over cake. Put under the broiler of the oven till browned.
